What a year!

Posted on: November 19th, 2012 by Chris No Comments

Thanks again to all who came to our Single Launch at the Grace Darling last Thurs. It was a great night and a fantastic way to sign off on what has been a busy and landmark year for us. We’ve played more shows in the last year than ever before, including our first interstate shows in years, released four singles, and EP, and our first ever film clip. Massive.

As the year winds to a close, we’ll be taking a break from playing live while we work on our next record, so you won’t be seeing or hearing as much from us in the coming months. Don’t worry though, we’ll be back bigger and better than ever next year.

So, until then, thanks again to everyone who came to all of our shows in 2012, your presence is what makes performing so special for us. Thanks too to all who have downloaded and purchased our tracks and EP, as well as those who have written to us & contributed to our Facebook page, Twitter feed, etc. It means a lot.

Have a wonderful, safe break over Christmas and the New Year period, and we look forward to being able to announce new songs, a new major release and new shows in 2013.

All the best,
Chris, Marcus, Tom, David and Jesse.

The Midnight Pirates

Last night we slipped into 3RRR in Brunswick to do a “Formative Five” with Tristen Harris on his show The Golden Age of Piracy.

I got to say I’ve been a long time listener of his show so it was a real pleasure to finally meet him. The show invites artists on to play their top five songs that were influential on their song writing and development, over an hour long informal chat.

It became pretty clear halfway through that Tristan, like ourselves, is a huge fan of  post punk, a period between the late 70s and early eighties where affordable synths, egos, recording equipment and ambitious musos collided to create a fountain of diverse and mind blowing music. I am constantly finding new acts from that period that sound just as fresh as anything coming out today.

Here’s the top 5 (in no particular order):

1.  Ashes To Ashes –  David Bowie

2.  Do What You Got To DoRoberta Flack (written by Jimmy Web)

3.  This Night Has Opened My EyesThe Smiths

4. Damaged GoodsGang of Four

5. Rebellion (Lies)Arcade Fire

You can listen to the Golden Age of Piracy episode here.
